The Houston Texans are making moves, adding former first-round cornerback C.J. Henderson to their roster. Henderson, who was selected as the No. 9 pick in the 2020 draft, recently inked a deal with the Texans after meeting with the team earlier in the day. This acquisition comes on the heels of the Texans signing Jeff Okudah, another 2020 first-rounder, earlier this offseason.
Henderson's career so far has been a mix of promise and injury setbacks. He played 10 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars before being traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2021, missing part of his rookie season due to a groin injury. Despite some ups and downs, Henderson managed to secure two interceptions with the Panthers in 2022, adding to his career total of 16 defended passes.
Standing tall at six feet and weighing around 200 pounds, Henderson fits the physical profile that head coach DeMeco Ryans looks for in his cornerbacks, much like Okudah and 2022 first-rounder Derek Stingley Jr. The Texans are hoping that this trio can solidify their secondary, which has been a point of concern in recent seasons.
While neither Henderson nor Okudah have yet to establish themselves as elite NFL starters, their presence adds depth and competition to the Texans' cornerback position. With the potential for more additions through free agency, trades, or the upcoming draft, Ryans is positioning his defense for success in the upcoming season.
