Massachusetts Lottery Sees Two Major Wins in 2026
Massachusetts has had a big week for lottery players, with two of the state’s biggest prizes of 2026 recently won or claimed.
The biggest headline is a $29.71 million Megabucks jackpot, which was won in the September 7 drawing. The winning numbers were 21, 28, 31, 34 and 40, according to Massachusetts State Lottery officials.
The lucky ticket was purchased at King Mart in Holyoke on Westfield Road. The winner can choose a cash option worth more than $19.6 million before taxes and has one year to claim the prize.
A $25 Million Prize Is Also Claimed
Another major prize recently went to the Carrow Road Trust of Peabody. Trustee Donald MacDonald represented the trust when it claimed a $25 million prize from the $50 "$25,000,000 Mega Money" scratch game.
The winning ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven in Quincy. Rather than taking the full prize through scheduled payments, the trust selected a one-time cash payment of $16.25 million before taxes.
The odds of hitting the game's $25 million top prize are about 1 in 8.4 million. Three top-prize tickets were distributed across Massachusetts, and two have now been claimed.
Retailers Also Get Big Bonuses
Winning tickets can mean extra money for the stores that sell them.
- King Mart: $50,000 bonus
- 7-Eleven in Quincy: $50,000 bonus
- Cumberland Farms in Turners Falls: $50,000 bonus
Massachusetts lottery retailers receive a 1% bonus for selling winning tickets, with the bonus capped at $50,000. For draw games, the bonus can be paid even if the winner has not yet claimed the prize because lottery officials know where the ticket was sold. Scratch-ticket retailers receive the bonus after the winning ticket is claimed.
Where These Prizes Rank
Although the two 2026 prizes are among Massachusetts' biggest wins, they still have a long way to go to match the state's record.
The $29.71 million Megabucks jackpot ranks ninth among the state's largest lottery prizes, while the $25 million prizes rank 10th.
The biggest prize in Massachusetts history remains a staggering $758.7 million Powerball jackpot, won in Chicopee on August 23, 2017.
