A simple “Why not?” turned into a life-changing moment for a 62-year-old Oakland County man who won $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Ruby 7s instant game.
The lucky player was at a Speedway on South Rochester Road in Rochester, picking out several scratch-off tickets when a store clerk asked if he wanted to add a Ruby 7s ticket.
He decided to go for it.
“Why not?”
That quick decision ended up being worth $1 million.
The man said he started scratching his tickets after getting back into his car. When he saw the $1 million prize on the Ruby 7s ticket, he was completely stunned.
His daughter was with him at the time and immediately shared the excitement.
A Life-Changing Surprise
The winner chose to take his prize as a one-time lump-sum payment of about $693,000.
He already has plans for the unexpected windfall, including:
