The Powerball jackpot just keeps climbing, and it’s now sitting at a jaw-dropping $1.7 billion, making it the fourth-largest jackpot in U.S. history. With the holidays in full swing, the excitement around this drawing is reaching another level.
Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn summed it up perfectly, saying the holiday season already feels special — and a jackpot this massive only adds to the buzz. He also reminded players to enjoy the moment, play responsibly, and have fun with the anticipation leading up to the big drawing on Christmas Eve.
When is the next Powerball drawing?
The $1.7 billion Powerball jackpot will be up for grabs on Wednesday, December 24. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, giving players plenty of chances to try their luck.
Powerball history is being made
This drawing marks the 47th straight drawing since the jackpot was last won in September, setting a new record for the longest jackpot run in the game’s 33-year history.
Even more impressive:
-
This is only the second time ever Powerball has produced back-to-back jackpots over $1 billion
-
The last time it happened was in 2023, with wins in July and October
Big wins for Iowa players
Even though no one hit the jackpot on Monday, Iowa players still had a strong showing:
-
37,996 winning tickets were sold statewide
-
One lucky ticket came just one number short of the jackpot
-
That ticket matched four white balls plus the Powerball, scoring $50,000
-
It was purchased at Casey’s, 780 North Main Street in Walcott
Monday’s winning numbers
For the December 22 drawing, the numbers were:

Ticket sales across Iowa
