Richmond Woman Wins $30,000 Lottery Prize—and Her English Bulldog Is Getting Spoiled Too

A Kentucky woman's $30,000 lottery win is bringing smiles to more than just her family. One of the biggest winners? Her beloved English bulldog, who is about to enjoy a little extra pampering.

Melanie Fisher of Richmond picked up a $2 Kentucky Humane Society scratch-off ticket during a quick stop at the Mt. Vernon C-Store. She has always enjoyed playing Kentucky Lottery scratch-offs, especially games that support causes she believes in. This time, her ticket turned into an unforgettable surprise.

Fisher said she scratched the ticket while talking with her daughter on the phone. At first, she couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"I just froze," she said. "I told my daughter, 'I think I just won $30,000.' I kept checking the ticket because it didn't seem real. Then I said, 'I have to go!' It was crazy."

Still in shock, Fisher and her husband returned to the store to verify the winning ticket before heading to Kentucky Lottery headquarters. After taxes, she received $21,750.

Why the Win Means So Much

The prize came at the perfect time. Fisher shared that she has dealt with major medical challenges over the past several years, making the unexpected win feel like a true blessing.

"It's been a good week," she said. "This win came at the perfect time."

Here's How She Plans to Spend the Money

Fisher already has a few meaningful plans for her winnings:

  • ❤️ Donate to her church and local nonprofit organizations.
  • 👜 Possibly buy the designer handbag she's wanted for years—though she joked it will come from a consignment shop.
  • 🐶 Treat her English bulldog to a nail trim and plenty of new toys.

Fisher also has a special connection to the Kentucky Lottery. Both she and her daughter previously received lottery-funded scholarships to help pay for their education. When the Kentucky Humane Society scratch-off game launched, she was excited to support an organization she cares deeply about, never imagining it would lead to a $30,000 top prize.

What started as an ordinary stop at a convenience store turned into a life-changing moment—one that will benefit her family, her community, and even one very happy English bulldog.
