A 61-year-old woman from southwestern Michigan is celebrating a life-changing lottery win after buying a ticket during a routine grocery trip.
The Van Buren County woman purchased a Bonus Multiplier instant ticket at the Meijer store in Midland. After getting home, she placed the ticket on a table and completely forgot about it.
The next afternoon, she noticed the ticket and decided to scratch it.
Then came the shock—she had won a major prize.
“I started screaming when I realized I won,” the anonymous winner said.
She said the win still doesn’t feel completely real and expects it may finally sink in when she sees the money in her bank account.
How She’ll Use the Money
Instead of taking annuity payments, the winner chose a one-time lump-sum payment of about $693,000.
She plans to:
- 🏠 Finish some needed home repairs
- 💰 Open a savings account for each of her grandchildren
The Michigan Lottery said players have won more than $7 million through the Bonus Multiplier game since it launched in August. More than $39 million in prizes are still available, including two remaining $1 million top prizes.
For this Michigan grandmother, though, one grocery-store stop turned into a nearly $693,000 surprise.
