A Missouri woman had a surprising reaction after learning that the $228,000 Show Me Cash jackpot winner was actually her.
The woman had recently passed a sign announcing that someone had won the big jackpot in Arnold. She remembers feeling a little jealous and thinking, “Why couldn’t that be me?”
Little did she know, she was the lucky winner.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, why couldn’t that be me?’”
She later stopped at a gas station for a soda and headed home. That’s when she checked her ticket—and realized she had matched all five winning numbers from the August 10 drawing:
4 – 12 – 23 – 24 – 37
The winning ticket was purchased at the Circle K at 504 Jeffco Blvd. in Arnold.
A Responsible Plan for the Prize
The winner said she only plays Show Me Cash, mainly because it is a Missouri lottery game. She doesn't typically play Powerball or Mega Millions.
Rather than rushing to spend the money, she said she has already put part of her $228,000 prize toward retirement savings. She also plans to use some of the winnings as a down payment on a home.
“I’m trying to be responsible with it,” she said.
Show Me Cash drawings are held every day at 8:59 p.m. The jackpot starts at $50,000 and increases until someone wins. The next estimated jackpot was listed at $180,000.
