A Texas lottery winner has $14.3 million in cash before taxes coming their way—and their first plans are surprisingly down-to-earth: a good steak and a new pair of boots.
A Lake Jackson resident recently claimed the $26.75 million Lotto Texas jackpot from the August 10 drawing, according to the Texas Lottery. The winner chose the cash option and received $14,303,717.61 before taxes.
The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at Murphy USA 5695 in Angleton and matched all six numbers:
- 15, 16, 25, 28, 38 and 53
The winner said they first tried checking the ticket through the Texas Lottery app shortly after the drawing. Since the official results hadn't appeared yet, they decided to check the numbers manually.
That’s when the unbelievable moment happened. After reaching the final line of numbers, the winner realized the ticket was a jackpot winner.
They immediately called their spouse, and the two stayed on the phone while the winner drove to meet them.
A Careful Plan for the Fortune
Even with millions suddenly headed their way, the winner isn't rushing into a lavish lifestyle. They're working with a financial adviser, attorney and CPA to create a long-term plan.
Their goals include:
- Paying off debts
- Protecting their family's financial future
- Managing the money responsibly
- Building long-term financial security
Still, the winner has already picked out two small rewards.
“First, I’m going to get a steak and pair of boots.”
The jackpot had been building since April 22, when it started at $5 million. It rolled over through 48 drawings before finally being won on August 10.
The Angleton store that sold the lucky ticket also got a $25,000 bonus from the Texas Lottery.
